Livingston Lane is nine beautiful house sites on a 50 acre parcel
of land which had been previously owned for many years by the
Blackwell family. Livingston Lane was so named at the suggestion
of John Blackwell. It is named for a Blackwell ancestor, Colonel
Henry Livingston who served under Washington in the Continental
Army. He is also acknowledged as the true author of the poem, "T'
was the Night Before Christmas" which is often credited to Clement
Moore. The development is the first that was permitted under
Newbury's Open Space Residential District zoning by-law. One of
the purposes of this by-law is to encourage preservation of open
space, agricultural land, forestry land and wildlife habitat. That
goal is met here through the low density development which allows
most of the parcel to remain undisturbed. There will be walking
trails created which will allow the residents to access the
surrounding woodlands and a vantage point overlooking the Wolf
Brook ice pond.
